L. Brent Sumner, CPA | President, NC License #9906
As managing partner, Brent Sumner is responsible for achieving the firm’s vision. That vision? To help clients get the most from their business for their family. And Brent loves what he does. “I just enjoy going to work every day,” he’ll tell you enthusiastically. He loves the fact that his business is helping people, beyond providing expert tax and accounting services.
Brent has more than 40 years experience providing professional financial and business guidance. He earned his degree with a focus on accounting from East Carolina University.
Equally enthusiastic about giving back to the community, Brent has served on the Board of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the Cool Spring Downtown District Boards. “By working with these organizations, I can help make our community a better place to live, work and play,” he says.
In his spare time, Brent may be found on the golf course or enjoying time with family. He is also a proud member of the choir at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.
Lisa Sessoms | Vice President, Unlicensed
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Methodist University, Lisa joined McFadyen & Sumner in 1985 and became a partner in 2007. Ask her why she’s spent her entire professional career here, and she’ll tell you the firm’s founders (David McFadyen and Brent Sumner) created a rare atmosphere where clients feel comfortable, and staff enjoy the camaraderie of their colleagues. “People are entrusting us with their financial information,” she says, “and it’s important that we have a connection and earn their confidence and respect.”
With specialized knowledge in business development and small business retirement plans, Lisa provides tax, accounting, and business consulting services to clients of all sizes in a variety of industries. She also heads up the Marketing and Human Resources departments for the firm.
Lisa is happy to have the opportunity to give back to her profession and the community – serving on the Accounting Advisory Committee for FTCC and actively supporting organizations including Operation InAsMuch, Cape Fear Valley’s Friends of the Cancer Center, and the Duke Cancer Institute.
A die-hard Wolfpack fan, Lisa loves all kinds of music (she plays piano), shag dancing and the beach.
